House Dems will deduct pay from GOP lawmakers who refuse to wear masks

The House of Representatives is preparing to dock the pay of legislators who refuse to wear masks, after three House members who sheltered with maskless fellow lawmakers during last week’s Capitol riots tested positive for COVID-19.

A senior House Democratic aide confirmed to The Post that the fines will be adopted Tuesday night as part of legislation urging Vice President Mike Pence to oust President Trump using the 25th Amendment.

“The rule for the [Rep. Jamie] Raskin resolution tonight will include language implementing a fine system (similar to what Republicans implemented in 2017 for filming on the floor) for non-compliance with the Speaker’s mask requirement on the House Floor,” the source said.

There will be a “$500 fine for first offense.  $2,500 for second offense.  Fines will be deducted from Member pay (no use of campaign funds or [Members’ Representational Allowance] for fines).”
