Dog and dash!
A DoorDash driver in Michigan took off with a customer’s new puppy after dropping off their order, video shows.
The female driver was caught on surveillance footage abducting an 8-week-old pooch named Bella at the home in Warren on New Year’s Day, news station WXYZ reported.
“You can see her pet the dog [and] rub the dog seeing if it was vicious, then scoop the dog up and take the dog to her car,” the dog’s owner, Ashley Swinton, told the outlet.
Swinton said the new furry family member had been a Christmas present for her children.
Thankfully, police were able to track down the 26-year-old woman, who admitted swiping Bella.
“They admitted to stealing the dog. I recovered the dog from the scene,” Detective Brian Price told the outlet.
Price declined to identify the woman since charges have not been filed in the case.
He said Bella was found “still in good health” and returned to her home.
Of the alleged dog-napping, Price called video footage “shocking.”
“This is a new one even for me. Pretty shocking when you watch the video and see it happen right in front of you,” he said.
DoorDash said Wednesday the driver has been suspended from the food delivery service.
Why would the owner leave such a small and young puppy on a porch in the cold? While I don’t agree with stealing the puppy it was probably cold! The owner just wants attention. She has no regard for the welling being of the puppy.
