Maryland state employee union fails to agree on pay raise with Hogan administration

A union representing about 20,000 Maryland state employees said Friday that it had failed to agree on a pay raise for the coming budget year with representatives of Gov. Larry Hogan.

Patrick Moran, president of AFSCME Council 3, said the state offered a 1 percent raise for the budget year beginning July 1, but it would have been contingent on revenue outpacing budget projections by $200 million. Moran said the union was seeking a 4 percent bump and step increases, which he described as in line with what police officers and firefighters will receive.

The union says the collapse of the talks was especially troubling because state employees such as corrections officers and social workers have put their health at risk on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. The union says a tenth of its members have tested positive for the virus and six have died.

  1. Adolph Hogan has always been against State Employees / Retirees. That is why he always alters / lessens the Health benefits and increase the cost. That is why Hitler Hogan has robbed the State Employees Retirement Fund like the other Governors and has not repaid any of it back into the account along with the interest lost because of his incompetency.

What about Retiree pay increase? We still have bills with a stalemate in pay.

This is just another example of Hogan the DICTATOR Democrat leadership.

  2. Well look-y here! They want to give themselves a raise, not surprised, while most of you have no jobs, and the rest are on the verge of losing theirs! I just don’t get why you slaves love being treated like this! I don’t understand why you keep on just taking in the @ss! You slaves really doput to shame the real slaves of history! And that is sad!

  3. Is this the same UNION that promotes the Socialist Democrat agenda and backs the Democrat Socialist in every election? Is this the same UNION that does not promote employee issues for the betterment of these employees and their working conditions? Is this the same UNION the only pushes their agenda for their benefit and not the workers?
They always give in to the Socialist Democrat agenda and the raises the dues on the members whether the workers get a raise or not.

I know I fought against them for 20 years for not fighting for the employee.

  4. So once again unions have a stranglehold on state education and workers who get free medical, sweet tetirement packages and plenty of other benefits that most working class citizens do not get!!!!.vote with your feet or the Avalanche of tax increases will bury any chance of escape

  5. 12:57 They don’t get free medical, sweet retirement packages and other benefits. They have to pay for their medical like every body else. They are mandated to contribute a percentage of their salary for their retirement and what other benefits are you talking about. The average State Employee had several years with no pay raises and had to take mandated furlough days which resulted in lost of pay for these days. What working class had to take off mandatory days without pay?

The ones you are talking about is not the average State worker. They are the State Education / Colleges, Judges / Judicial and State Police.

Get your accusations correct when you throw out false information.

  6. The so-called UNIONS in MD are >>> WORTHLESS

They do Nothing for you fools
I paid 4 of them at the same time & dropped them ALL since they did Nothing for us !!!! (ECI)

The state Buys them off, so they don’t do shhhht for you !!!

  7. Time for me as a State employee to begin my accidental disability retirement! Guaranteed raise going this route!
