Viola Man Charged With Attempted Murder Following Officer-involved Shooting

Delaware State Police say a 28-year-old Viola man is facing attempted murder and related charges following an officer-involved shooting incident late Wednesday afternoon.

Police said that shortly after 5:30 p.m., troopers were dispatched to to a home in Viola where a resident of the home told them that Ronald Cochran was inside the bathroom with a gun and saying he was going to shoot up the place.
Troopers ordered Cochran through an open exterior door to come out of the home, but he fled up the stairs to the second floor, police said.
Police said Cochran then climbed out of a second story window and onto the roof of the first floor and fired two gunshots toward two troopers on scene.
The officers fired back, Cochran jumped off the roof and ran to the front of the house, where he fired at a 3rd officer.
That officer shot back hitting Cochran in the upper arm and shoulder.
Cochran ran to a neighboring home where police were able to apprehend him. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released and transported to the State Police Troop where he was charged, after that he was taken to Sussex Correctional Institution where he remains on bond.
None of the officers were injured in the shootout!
