Aretired Catholic archbishop is defending the practice of withholding holy communion from Joe Biden, stating the Democratic politician’s support for abortion rights has “smoothed the way for grave moral evils” in the U.S.
Charles Chaput, the archbishop emeritus of Philadelphia, made that case in an essay in First Things on Friday, responding to the ongoing controversy of Biden’s position on the issue, as it relates to his professed Catholic faith.
The Catholic Church stipulates that “formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense,” to the point that those who so participate in abortion receive “the canonical penalty of excommunication” from the Church and so should be denied reception of the Eucharist.
They should do that with every dumbocrat that votes for abortion, releasing felons, and pedophile supporters!
If only the Catholic Church and it’s followers could learn to abide by their own rules.
The ArchBishop of Washington DC has already stated that he will give Biden the Eucharist.
Biden has also offended the Priests by molesting girls along with boys, they look at this as a slam to them since they just do boys.
As a cradle Catholic, the cowardice and lack of backbone exhibited by bishops and cardinals in recent decades in giving a pass to ostensible Catholic politicians is a continuing scandal. I’m glad the retired archbishop spoke up.
But as noted above the archbishop of Washington, DC, a newly minted cardinal is recently on record stating he would offer Holy Communion to Biden. Guess his trip to Rome failed to reacquaint him with basic Church teaching on this critical topic. His public words to Biden should have been that he’s banned until he publicly recants, and that if his foot injury results in his demise he won’t be buried from a Catholic church. You name it: Biden, Pelosi, Cuomo, Teddy, et al have played the Church for chumps.
