Eight incumbents cruise to US Senate reelection victories

Eight incumbent US senators cruised to reelection, and the Republican candidate for an open seat from Tennessee also scored an easy victory Tuesday, according to a series of projections by CNN.

None of the races were considered competitive or crucial to the balance of power in the Senate, where the GOP now holds a 53-47 edge.

Democrats Cory Booker of New Jersey, Chris Coons of Delaware, Ed Markey of Massachusetts and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire were all returned to office, CNN said.

Republican Tom Cotton of Arkansas, a potential 2024 presidential candidate, also won reelection, as did Republicans Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma and Mike Rounds of South Dakota, according to CNN.

GOP candidate Bill Hagerty won his Senate race in solidly Volunteer State, the network said.
