A Viewer Writes: Wicomico County Social Services

The Department of Social Services has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic.  If you want to file a new claim you must do it by email or by coming to this self serve area located in the lobby of the District Court.  For many this presents a problem as many do not have access to the internet, are mentally or physically unable to navigate the system and those that have never filed before do not know the “system.”  The department of social services does have glass in place which offers protection and have a large lobby albeit with locked doors.  Why is it that those that are put in the position to help people at their most vulnerable are unable to provide the services they need at this time?  I encourage you to attempt to use the 800 number to contact someone and get answers or to call the local number and get a voice…or you could just come in and knock on their locked doors, observe the glass in place and ask them why when many others are able to serve the public, they are not?

  1. This covid thing is getting way out of hand , I realize it’s a pandemic and can be bad for people with preexisting problems , so is the flue . If you have noticed the government is taken full advantage of this problem by not going to work , that’s local , state and federal. Trump is corrct , when the election is over you won’t hear a peep about covid 19.
Those of you who are with Biden don’t have a clue . He is out to destroy this nation with his lady Harris who is by far a left wing communist . Just remember they use the word Socialist to brain wash you and lead you away from the real word Communist .
Vote Trump or live with socialism and communist beliefs.

  2. Are these workers being paid while the office is closed? If the DMV can open by appointment only why can’t other places do the same thing?

  3. Maybe someone can organize a date and time when hundreds can show up to the office to complain. The news and Governor’s office should be called ahead with the time.

  4. Calm down. Employees are working (not being paid to stay home as 1:01 so politely implied). Services are still being provided, just not in person. If you are person with a disability who cannot access services due to an office closure please file an Equal Opportunity complaint. Transportation is so often cited as a reason people can’t access needed services, so why is that you are now complaining that social services is providing services remotely? Also, you CAN make an appointment with a valid reason or need. And one more thing—state offices are closed due to Hogan’s order. He has not given the green light for most agencies to re-open and once he does it’s not going to be a free for all. Appointments or phone calls will be the way of life for quite some time.

  5. Theres more than that to worry about in this county!! The pervert interim Wicomico County library director is considering floating a plan to open pornography lounges in our County libraries. This is being pushed throughout liberal State Library systems of which he is evidently a supporter. Pornography publishing is at an all time high and he wants part of the action. Increased traffic flow increases their funding and they want the bodies in the building and people logging in to their servers. This is also why they are daytime homeless shelters. They want more tax payers money, they don’t care about decency or education.
