While admittedly the economy sucks right now, people are depending on great deals with second hand items. Now I have to admit I own a Thrift Store in Parsonsburg and I keep my prices very reasonable and I’ll work with ANYONE that’s not trying to resell items. However, thrift stores, (and I go to almost every one on the shore) have become retail stores, including clothes.
That’s what I hear the most, people complain about the clothing being outrageous. Yesterday I went to a thrift store and saw these two items. REALLY!!! I sell the same mixer for $50.00. While my favorite album in the world is American Graffiti, (a personal preference) this price is ridiculous! I have over 50,000 albums in my store, (probably the largest collection certainly on the Eastern Shore) and I have incredible prices.
The whole idea with thrift stores is to help people get great deals, not rip them off. I know that my readers know what I’m talking about because I hear it all the time and I personally witness it. I must say this as well. It is VERY rare I see someone from another thrift store come into my place to see what the competition is doing. I go every week to see what others are doing and I think I might have to do posts on who’s got great prices and or who’s gouging others.
Oh, on another note. Some thrift stores are non profits, meaning they shouldn’t be charging TAX. Are their exemptions??? Hmmmmmm!
