President Donald Trump’s longtime pollster is telling Republican candidates how to answer Democratic Party attacks over AI data centers, according to a memo obtained by Axios.
Tony Fabrizio warns in the memo that “unqualified support for building more AI data centers is a losing position,” the outlet reports.
The memo was reportedly sent on Monday.
Fabrizio advises candidates against saying they support building more data centers.
“It will be clipped and show up in ads,” he writes.
The memo suggests Republicans back AI infrastructure only on the condition that developers pay for their own power needs, protect consumers from higher utility bills, and safeguard local water and natural resources.
Fabrizio writes that candidates must make clear those conditions are enforceable rather than voluntary commitments from technology companies.
“This converts the candidate from a defender of technology companies into the person imposing rules on them,” he writes.
The memo lays out a three-step script.
Candidates should first validate voters’ concerns about higher utility bills, the power grid, and water use.
