A serious and potentially fatal condition has seen a major spike in teens and adults who regularly use cannabis.

As The Hill reported on Saturday, a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that “scromiting” in the United States has become more prevalent among younger marijuana users.

Scromiting is social media slang for the condition’s real name, Cannabis (or cannabinoid) hyperemesis syndrome (CHS).

As the Jackson Health System notes, CHS happens when repeated cannabis use affects the body’s normal ability to regulate nausea, triggering ongoing nausea, severe stomach pain, and uncontrollable vomiting.
