What others said on the sports complex site

The following represents a collection of comments made during the sports complex site discussion at Monday’s Ocean City Mayor and Council meeting.

Tammy Bradford, Old Ocean City Road resident: “In my opinion, this sports complex is a great example of urban sprawl, which is defined as the uncontrolled, outward spread of a city into nearby rural land.

Everybody in Ocean City keeps saying it’s going to be a boost to tourism and business. If that’s true, build it next to those businesses that are going to benefit … Another concerning factor to me is the price. I’m not a very good math person but when you say it appraised at $2.7 [million] but you are going to pay $8 [million], that math is not math-ing for me. It doesn’t sound fiscally responsible.”

Chris Bunting, operator, Ocean Aerial, Cloud Dancer, Bunting’s Dusting: “… each one of these planes have five-pound grappling hooks off the back of them that do fall off at times, that fly over this location. Would you want your kids underneath those hooks, or 200- to 300-pound banners that could fall off from 200 feet with metal poles and all these accessories go with it? …

“We’ve landed planes and lost banners in those fields. With all this said, are you going to tell us that you have more experience than us in our own field, and have a better relationship with the FAA?

“Because contrary to what some may think, the next thing to come from this is hotels in Berlin and on the east side of Salisbury, both closer to the complex than Ocean City. Along with it, strip malls and restaurants. And what then, would’ve been the point of Ocean City putting this facility at this particular location?”

  1. Fight Fight Fight

    I am very glad they stopped.this urban.sprawl development .

All politicians care about is more revenue, and destroying farms , livelihoods is part of their game.

Some builders I’ve talked to advised me they are going to make our area like New Jersey.

Governor Wesy Moron wants to build more and more Government housing in our areas…

Fight together , and the builders and Government will lose..
