A doctor working as a DoorDash driver to support his wife’s medical career was shot in the back of the head after being sent to a Philadelphia address where residents told police they had not ordered food.
Md Mahfuzul Haque, 43, was making a delivery in the city’s Kingsessing neighborhood on July 7 when he was killed in what police described as a targeted attack involving three masked suspects.
Zakah Johnson, 15, has been charged as an adult with murder, robbery, conspiracy and firearms offenses over Haque’s death.
Johnson was already in custody in connection with an unrelated investigation when authorities identified him as a suspect and rearrested him before his scheduled release, police said.
The teenager was denied bail and is being held at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center ahead of a preliminary hearing on August 10, according to NBC 10.
Investigators were still searching for two other people believed to have been involved in the killing.
Haque, a physician from Bangladesh, had temporarily set aside his own medical ambitions and taken odd jobs to support his wife, Minara Rahman, while she pursued an optometry career in the US, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
But their attempt to build a new life in America ended in tragedy just as Rahman was beginning the career her husband had worked to support.
