The Museum That Can’t Answer a Kindergarten Question
Rep. Nancy Mace put up images of drag queen displays at the Smithsonian – exhibits taxpayers fund, exhibits children see on school field trips – and asked Director Anthea Hartig a simple question: “Do you believe that men can become women?”
Hartig hesitated, then said that’s “not relevant in this case.”
Mace pressed harder.
“What is a woman, Dr. Hartig?” she asked.
The director of the American History Museum – a Ph.D. who oversees 231 employees and a $54.5 million budget – looked down and said: “We strive to represent and not categorize all Americans.”
