Wicomico Parents Beg School Board To Allow Full In-Person Return

SALISBURY – As hybrid in-person learning continues in Wicomico County, some parents are calling on school system leaders to have students return to the classroom full time.

More than 100 people attended a virtual school board meeting Tuesday, where parents of Wicomico County Public Schools (WCPS) students urged officials to return to traditional instruction.

“We’re pleading with you to open five days a week,” parent Andrew Hade said. “That’s what we want. We won’t accept anything less than that. We’re not going to go away. Our kids deserve it.”

In February, Wicomico County students transitioned back to hybrid in-person learning – with two days of in-person instruction and two days of virtual learning – as part of the school system’s Return to School Action Plan.

  1. Student full return would be best for the students they need to be able to live a as normally a as possible. Most of the Covid danger is past. What remains is the worst Md governor ever and it’s just politics now pure and simple.

  2. Apparently these parents need to learn how to obey. Biden is saving America listen to him. Proven track record of excellent decisions. Crime Bill and nafta were awesome. Science folks

  3. Tel the unions, BOE, state and FEDS to SHOVE IT…DEFUND public education ISSUE vouchers now. Lets us Decide its OUR MONEY..i expect a tax refund this year going on two year refund!!!!

  4. Take it from me, I am a teacher. Not all teachers belong to the union and we want our kids back in school. They’re letting “at risk” kids come back 4 days. And they barely show up. We have great kids that want to be successful and we are failing them. Remember the elected school board next election. They do NOTHING but agree with the superintendent.

  5. 3:50 I commend you. Frankly I believe if the teachers don’t go back parents will look for permanent options and teachers will become irrelevant and with that will come a cut in pay – perhaps even layoffs. Taxpayers will begin to want their money back and the legislature will be forced to give it
So 3:50 maybe you should start thinking about how you can teach children privately – perhaps starting your own private school. You would have alot of support at this point.

  6. 3:08 I agree but I would add these same employees are not being punished for not doing their job they contracte to do.

They should have been penalized by taking all their SICK LEAVE, PERSONNAL LEAVE TIME,, ANNUAL LEAVE TIME, COMP TIME, OVERTIME they have on the books and put them on leave without pay. Then make them reimburse the STATE for all their salary they received and for all the benefits they have received and still get.

Instead they get a free vacation to do what they want.

They get a free hand out while Seniors on SSI gets the shaft. For all you A$$HOLES don’t like me on SSI and think I should go back to work, then why are you not working instead of drawing unemployment with all the side benefits of GOVT handouts. I will tell you why they are lazy and wants me to pay taxes so thei lazy A$$E$ get paid for doing nothing.

Also make the school system reimburse the STATE for all the broken computers they bought. Then all the Poltians reimburse the State for all the kickbacks they received from these second hand computers.

  7. We need to follow the money on this computer scam!
Members of the School Board should be held responsible for this decision!

  8. De-certify the union and fire any employees that do not return to work. Others have worked all through the pandemic. TEACHERS ARE NOT SPECIAL. Get back to work!

  9. Some misconceptions in earlier comments:
Teachers are working 5 days/wk on their regular daily hours. Monday & Tuesday are one group of hybrid kids in the classroom and all the virtual kids online, simultaneously. Thursday and Friday have different hybrid kids in the classroom with the rest online simultaneously. Wednesdays are offline for students, and most staff. Used for meetings, planning, student-parent-teacher online meetings, etc.
All students who wanted to stay virtual have continued to do so.
Students/parents who chose hybrid are physically in school 2 days and virtual 3 days. Teacher almost all wish the kids were in person 4 or 5 days.
One of the big constraints has been physical distancing in classrooms according to Fed and state mandates for 6 feet spacing, which teachers and school districts didn’t design.
Teachers are at work and earning their pay.
Is it perfect? No, but neither was the ‘old normal’.

  10. hanlin is a joke along with the rest of the DemonicRat school board members. they dont give a rats ass about you or your kids. As long as the gravy train keeps rolling. pay benefits etc. long past time for school vouchers!
Stfu and just keep paying for services not rendered!
My kid didnt get any of the following so why should yours? f u!

Please give these seniors the remainder of their senior year. Please give these seniors their grand march, their senior proms, spectators at their games, Rock and Roll Revival, and in-person graduation, and all those things that left large voids in their young lives.”

  11. When has any board listened to the people? Tell them the stove its hot, they touch it. Tell them not to jump they jump. Agree to them, sure they take that and run.

  12. Just another scam to allow the Marxist Democrats to violate the Federal Election Laws and utilize this method to BUY VOTES.

DECERTIFY ALL UNIONS they are an arm of the MARXIST / COMMUNIST PARTIES used to control citizens. These are the weak minded so-called EDUCATED.
