SALISBURY – It was a lengthy discussion on short- and long-term solutions last week as state, county and municipal representatives convened a virtual town hall to address Wicomico’s septic issues.
Last Thursday, the Coastal Association of Realtors (CAR) held a virtual town hall meeting with a panel of state, county and municipal officials to discuss the importance of septic and wastewater systems in Wicomico.
“Over the past few years, the process for replacing and repairing septic systems in Wicomico County has become an extremely lengthy process, and in many cases very costly,” said CAR President Joni Williamson. “We have seen home sales suffer because of these delays, and by tackling this problem head on we hope to prevent a future decline in property values.”
Property owners, real estate agents and developers that participated in last week’s Zoom meeting highlighted the challenges with septic systems in Wicomico. They noted staffing shortages at the county health department have led to months-long permitting delays, and state regulations and soil standards have made it difficult and costly to install and replace systems.
I am experiencing this issue firsthand. I bought my first home in August of 2019, and by December of that year our septic began to back up and fail. I had all of the appropriate inspections. I am now forced to decide whether to foreclose on my first home purchase or go forward with a holding tank which wil completely deplete the value of the property, meanwhile trying to limit water for a family of 4 with 2 small children is nearly impossible. This is a dire situation that desperately needs more attention. I worked hard to be able to purchase my first property and I now have to throw it all down the drain. Literally.
When I saw the headline I was excited. We need some realistic modifications to our current costly and non friendly system. After seeing that line up above, I stopped reading. I hope someone or at least two get invoked because if it’s this crew making decisions that they have no knowledge of. Lord help us.
Until Maryland is under Republican control development will be non existent on the eastern shore because the environmentalists are in control.
The State, Cities, Wicomico County and the Realtors that are backing this trash should be made to pay for this transition along with the expense of expanding and building more transfer stations for the sewage.
They are the ones that are going to making money on these projects while screwing over the homeowner. This has nothing to do with the Bay area. Restrict access from all these imports that are running away from the cities and are not Easter Shore Natives. Make them pay an excise penalty.
As a Senior Citizen who is a Native to Wicomico County and live in the County do not feel obligated for these rich A$$HOLES pleasures.
I cannot afford another bill in my budget such as $300 – $600 dollars not counting what they want to charge for having to pay the expense of running the lines and connection fees and expense of new or improved sewage plants to please the rich. I cannot afford my taxes to increase by $2000 dollars plus so others can make millions and I have to be kicked out on the streets and become homeless. because of these Govt mandates.
Since the State, County, Cities and Realtors will be making the millions off such a project they should be held responsible for all expenses.
If there is a problem with sewage now then where will this sewage and added sewage be spread? It is now being spread on farm land and low lying areas now. So this will only increase the problem since there will be a more concentrated area of where this sewage will be spread or more raw sewage will be dumped into the waterways without accountability.
yup make every home in wicomico part of every city’s water and sever system, millions more for the idiot DemonicRats to spend infusing your children with their luciferian ways!
