Aggie “Kalyn” Hunt, the 36-year-old wife of Lee County Sheriff-elect Cam Hunt, was booked into the Lee County Jail on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, just six days after her husband unseated a nearly three-decade incumbent in one of Alabama’s most closely watched Republican primaries.
Opelika police charged Hunt on Monday. She entered the jail at midnight and walked out 24 hours later. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to one year behind bars.
The arrest cast an immediate shadow over what had been a dramatic political victory for Cam Hunt, a Marine veteran who describes himself as a “proud Christian” and father of three. He defeated longtime Sheriff Jay Jones by the thinnest of margins, 50.84 percent to 49.16 percent, after Jones fired him from the department last October for daring to run against the boss.
