Twenty-four hours of bloodshed in Philadelphia: Body found in suitcase, one dead and 7 injured in shootings

A night of violence rocked Philadelphia as one man was killed and seven others were injured in a series of shootings overnight across the city, police said.

The shootings came as officers were also investigating the grisly discovery of a man’s body stuffed inside a suitcase found in an alleyway Friday morning.

The discovery was made by a neighbor who spotted the case on the 600 block of East Hilton Street in Kensington.

Officers responded around 9.25am to a report of a suspicious suitcase in an alleyway and found an unidentified man dead inside the luggage.

Neighbor Angela Alexander told WPVI she first noticed the gray suitcase sitting in the alley the night before while returning home from work.

‘I’m like I don’t know what it is but it’s a little scary that it’s like that,’ Alexander said.

She said the suitcase remained in the alley as she entered her home through the back entrance.

‘I told my husband I hope there ain’t no body in there,’ she said. ‘He said don’t worry about that, don’t touch it.’
