Federal purchasing records show that hundreds of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are being deployed around the country to strengthen enforcement efforts in more than 40 states.
USA Today reports that at least 330 officers and staff will be deployed to big cities like New York, Miami, Atlanta, Baltimore, Nashville, Seattle, and Houston as well as tiny towns like Derby, Vermont, and Caribou, Maine.
The purchasing records are primarily for coworking-style offices and desks rather than detention facilities but the purchases indicate that the White House and Department of Homeland Security officials are preparing to ramp up immigration enforcement nationwide.
The new deployments appear to be focused on expanding enforcement, with reports indicating a focus on removing individuals who entered the country illegally during the Biden administration.
White House officials have indicated that the surge will have a specific focus on cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration agents.
Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed to Fox News that the new hires at ICE will be deployed primarily to sanctuary cities, saying, “So we really got to concentrate on sanctuary cities because that’s where the biggest public safety threat is.”
