Making Healthcare Great Again: Republicans Must Support TrumpRx

Tennessee Republicans risk dismantling TrumpRx, a program that cuts drug costs by up to 93 percent, handing a win to Big Pharma and higher prices to their own voters.

eace is the watchword of the Trump presidency. Not the false peace of acquiescence at home and appeasement abroad, but the real peace of security—of financial security and peace of mind—for tens of millions of Americans. TrumpRx provides that security, with savings ranging from 33 percent to 93 percent on brand-name medications.

And yet, per my previous column, legislators in Tennessee and elsewhere threaten to undo this achievement. Attempts to weaken or eliminate TrumpRx endanger the security of working- and middle-class Americans. Any such attempt is a boon for Big Pharma—at the expense of the very people President Trump seeks to help. To undermine TrumpRx is therefore to betray the president’s efforts to reform health care and Make America Healthy Again (MAHA).

So, when President Trump backs a candidate in a state legislative race—such as his endorsement of Bobby Harshbarger for the Tennessee State Senate—it means something, especially because such endorsements are rare. For Harshbarger to then push a bill, SB 2040, that rewards Big Pharma and dismantles TrumpRx is an insult.
