A suspect accused of killing a married couple in an Arkansas crash is a fugitive who is in the U.S. illegally, Gov. Sarah Huckabee has confirmed.
The horrifying tragedy unfolded just after noon on Mar. 26 in Benton County.
Michael Cordes, 70, and his wife Freda, 67, were riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle through an intersection in their home city of Rogers when a Chevy Tahoe driven by Jose Luis Gamez turned left into their path, according to charging documents.
The Cordes were both killed in the collision, while Gamez emerged unscathed.
Gamez, 35, was arrested and charged with two counts of negligent homicide, driving while impaired, and improper entry or exit at an intersection.
Authorities discovered Gamez also had an active nationwide felony warrant out of Los Angeles County, California, for charges that have not been made public.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a detainer for Gamez, an illegal alien of undisclosed origin.
