ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WBFF) — Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is facing one of the most politically difficult stretches of his administration after newly released University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) polls show his approval rating dropping below 50% for the first time during his time in office, while concerns are piling up about his honesty, leadership and the state’s economic outlook.
The UMBC poll found 48% of surveyed Marylanders approve of the job Moore is doing, while 42% disapprove and 9% remain undecided. The numbers mark the governor’s lowest public rating since taking office in 2023 and continue a downward trend from 54% in October 2024 and 52% in October 2025.
Well, it ain’t good,” said Todd Eberly, a political science professor at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. “No incumbent wants to be polling below 50%, especially in an election year.”
These results come as Moore endures what observers describe as his second of three unsuccessful legislative sessions since taking up residency at Government House, with his hallmark effort to redraw Maryland’s only congressional district for Republicans being blocked by Senate President Bill Ferguson, a Baltimore City Democrat.
Many Annapolis insiders have told Spotlight on Maryland for months that Ferguson is the most powerful and influential Democrat in Annapolis, not the governor. In addition to his redistricting bill, Moore has failed to advance several other key legislative priorities in Maryland’s supermajority Democratic legislature during the past two sessions, including the Housing for Jobs Act and the ENERGIZE Act in 2025.
Character concerns grow
Meanwhile, the UMBC poll also highlighted a broader concern among voters regarding Moore’s overall character and leadership abilities in today’s highly divided political climate.

According to the UMBC findings, 27% of those who disapproved of Moore cited raised taxes and fees as their primary concern, nearly a year after a historic $1.6 billion tax and fee hike.
Another 24% pointed to poor leadership, “dishonesty,” or a personal dislike of the governor.
Despite multiple interview requests with Spotlight on Maryland since the UMBC poll was released on Tuesday, Moore’s press office has not responded. In line with recent patterns, the governor has had limited local press availability
Response:
Since the inception of the Moore Administration in Maryland, January of 2023.
This administration inherited $5 Billion Dollars in the reserves and by January 2025 after going “Fast and Furious” on spending with the “Kirwan Blueprint”, “Boondoggle” energy and transportation projects, and “mass hiring” of State employees, the Administration reportedly “made up jobs” for people that didn’t even exist before.
Squandered those reserve funds to $3 Billion Dollars in the hole as of January 8th 2025, the next day January 9th 2025 gave away another Billion dollars, and 1 week later January 15th 2025 demanded over a Billion Dollars of Tax and Fee Increases from the States Businesses and citizens, President Trump returned to the White House January 20th 2025.
The Moore Administration has increased Taxes and Fees on Marylands Businesses and Working Families to date by $2 Billion Dollars, with more on the way with property tax increases for FY 26 from SDAT through assessment increases on property.
On regulations the Moore Administration signed into law in 2024, MD 2024 SB 1, a 34 page regulatory bill on “traditional energ providers” that has “killed competition” on energy in the State. This has lead to energy rates in the State to increase as much as 1000% in parts of the State, and Maryland now has the “highest energy rates in the Country.”
With all of this it’s no wonder in 2026 Wallethub ranked Maryland the “2nd worst” State in the Country to open a business in. We know what in late 2025 Governor Moore said to his critics “IDGAF” well maybe with his poll numbers now at just 48 percent, in a blue State like Maryland maybe Maryland’s Businesses and Working Families do “give an F” when it comes to how Governor Moore has handled the States money and how it’s impacted their bottom line?.. we will see this November…
I don’t believe a word that comes out of his lying mouth! He’s a crooked POS!!!!
We would have more if we got rid of les
Governor Mooron is a fraud!
He only got his military awards after claiming them…some woke general approved them post-facto!
