A former IRS criminal investigator is making explosive claims about the federal income tax system — arguing that most Americans are not legally required to pay it.
Joseph Banister, a former IRS special agent, laid out his argument in a recent interview on the Going Rogue podcast, where he challenged how the government enforces income tax laws.
Banister said he reached his conclusions while working inside the IRS, after closely examining the tax code. He argued that Congress never explicitly made the average American worker liable for federal income tax and claimed the system relies heavily on voluntary compliance.
“If you’re living and working in the United States, you can’t find any law that makes you liable to pay an income tax on … your earnings,” Banister said.
Well they require the businesses that you work for to withhold the tax from you so it is taken before you even get it. If you set up your W4 in a way that limits the liability paid from your paycheck, than you will get penalized once you file. If what this guy is saying is true, the government will pass a law to steal it back from you. MD already got caught double taxing residents who earn money in other states back in 2015. Next they passed a “non-resident” tax to people who live in other states and work in MD. Those people are already paying taxes to MD from their checks but get an additional tax because “F-you, we can”. The only thing the government is able to accomplish effectively is steal from you!
