Maryland‘s Democratic governor swerved a question when grilled by a CNN anchor over reported evidence that appears to contradict the veracity of a story he’s told about his family being ‘forced’ into overseas exile by the Ku Klux Klan.
The report from the right-leaning Washington Free Beacon insists the story about Governor Wes Moore’s maternal grandfather, James Joshua Thomas, and great grandfather, Rev. Josiah Johnson Thomas, in the 1920s is not true.
Historical records from the Protestant Episcopal Church in the family’s hometown of Pineville, South Carolina, and contemporary reports from the time appear to indicate their departure was an ordinary public professional transfer.
