Maryland governor Wes Moore’s 2028 presidential aspirations are collapsing under the weight of his expansively embellished résumé and his allies aren’t taking it in stride. Records-based reporting from our Andrew Kerr has undercut key elements of Moore’s life story—first, that he was a “foremost expert” on radical Islam based on an Oxford graduate thesis that neither he nor the school can produce, and second, that his great-grandfather was chased out of the country by the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s. “In that sense,” the Free Beacon’s editors write, “the Potomac River overflowing with crap, apparently the largest wastewater spill in American history, is an apt metaphor for the governor himself.”
Moore gave a nonresponse response when pressed on his tall tales by CBS News correspondent Norah O’Donnell during a nationally televised “town hall.” He said he’s a “person of honor and integrity” who was “raised right.” (If you have to say it…)
Days prior, Moore’s communications director, David Turner, suggested it was racist to question Moore’s account of the imaginary KKK attack: “As most people with a basic understanding of American history know,” Turner told Baltimore’s local ABC News affiliate, “Black Americans often carried an oral tradition of their history due to low literacy rates at the time.” But the historical records Kerr obtained undermine Turner’s claims: They show that Moore’s great-grandfather, an Episcopal reverend, was literate, as were many blacks in the 1920s South.
Turner, by the way, is best known for helping Virginia Democratic governor Ralph Northam navigate the fallout after a photo surfaced showing him in blackface standing next to a man clad in a KKK robe. (Yes, really, we’re the racists.)
“Moore and his team may believe they can mock reporters and dismiss scrutiny because it comes from a ‘conservative blog,’ to use Moore’s term, and maybe they really are that stupid,” our editors conclude. “But Kerr’s meticulously researched reports come against the backdrop of a litany of false statements and prevarications from Moore about his background, from a ‘difficult childhood’ in Baltimore, where he never lived until college, to his absurd claim to have been inducted into the Maryland College Football Hall of Fame, an organization that does not exist, not to mention that little Bronze Star fiasco. If Moore runs in 2028, his primary opponents will call him on his bullshit. Calling them a ‘conservative blog’ and accusing them of racism while offering no substantive response—well, good luck with that.”
He definitely is full of it! Turd needs to go away!!!!!!!
