Why Parents Must Oppose Netflix’s Bid to Control America’s Culture

The Netflix–Warner merger isn’t just an antitrust question—it risks creating a cultural monopoly that sidelines parents and reshapes what America’s children are taught to value.

he groundbreaking proposed merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery has shocked Wall Street, sparking debate over its economic and legal impact on the market. Financial commentators consider how this will affect the entertainment industry, while lawyers and legal analysts evaluate whether the massive $84 billion deal will create an economic monopoly that violates the Sherman Antitrust Act. However, parents see something more concerning—the formation of a cultural monopoly that will undermine the beliefs and values they instill in their children.

When corporate executives describe the proposed merger as “transformative,” they see it as a compliment. But for millions of American families, this “transformative” change jeopardizes the basic relationship between parents and children, and that should raise five-alarm bells.

The real danger of this deal is not simply economic; it is cultural. Combining the world’s largest streaming platform with one of the most powerful legacy studios would give Netflix unprecedented influence over our shared entertainment, the stories that shape our society, and the content our children watch. No other company would come close to controlling as much of America’s narrative pipeline. Netflix has about 300 million subscribers already and could gain control of HBO Max’s 130 million subscribers, which include franchises like DC Comics and Looney Tunes. At the same time, no other company has demonstrated such an aggressive commitment to pushing progressive themes into every corner of its programming.
