A Tennessee man and his three-month-old granddaughter were found dead after being mauled by seven pit bulls inside their family home.
James Alexander Smith, 50, and the baby girl were attacked by the vicious dogs inside his Tullahoma residence on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Coffee County District Attorney’s Office.
Police said they were called to the gory scene at around 3pm, finding both victims dead on arrival, with some of the dogs still attacking the infant.
As the chaos unraveled, a neighbor recalled to News Channel 5 the heartbreaking meltdown one of the victims’ loved ones had as the tragedy unfolded.
The man, who asked not to be identified, recalled coming home at about 2:30 pm to a woman screaming and crying in the street.
‘I couldn’t understand what she was saying,’ he told the outlet. ‘I tried to help. I came up on her and asked her what was going on.
‘She wouldn’t answer me. She ran off. Then I heard one siren, and then I heard more, and knew the cavalry was coming, basically.’
It would have been a different story if it had been a pack of Yorkies.
