Mexico and Colombia have been added to Trump’s naughty list.
US President Donald J. Trump made statements yesterday (17) to the effect that he supports military strikes on cartels in Mexico and Colombia, setting the tone for an anti-drug operation in Latin America that would be much larger than expected.
By supporting kinetic action against narcotics production in Mexico and Colombia, Trump made it clear that the series of strikes on drug boats in the Caribbean and Pacific is just the start.
Reuters reported:
“Trump has intensified his campaign against maritime drug trafficking, authorizing more forceful interdiction operations and giving U.S. forces expanded authority to disable or sink vessels suspected of carrying narcotics.
Asked at an event in the Oval Office whether he backed similar ground strikes in Mexico to stem drug trafficking, Trump said: ‘OK with me, whatever we have to do to stop drugs’.”
Embattled Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who had a major protest with militants trying to invade her Presidential Palace, reacted to Trump’s statements.
