Developing: Convicted Felon with AR-15 Arrested at Atlanta Airport After Making Threats to “Shoot Up” the Place

A potential mass shooting was thwarted at Atlanta International Airport on Monday after police arrested a convicted felon with an AR-15 who threatened to “shoot up” the place.

The 49-year-old suspect, identified as Bill Joe Cagle, reportedly called his family on FaceTime and told them he was going to commit a mass shooting at Atlanta Airport.

Atlanta police called Cagle “mentally challenged.”

Fox 5 Atlanta reported:

Atlanta police are scheduled to hold a press conference at 3 p.m. Monday to discuss an incident that occurred earlier in the day at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

According to a source within the department, a man was arrested after allegedly making threats to “shoot up” the airport. Police reportedly found an AR-15 or a similar firearm in the suspect’s vehicle.

Investigators believe the threats were made while the man was on a video call with a family member. The suspect was taken into custody at the airport.

Atlanta Police will hold a press conference with more details on the incident and arrest.
