The Murder of Charlie Kirk Diminishes America

“Prove Me Wrong” appeared in big letters on the tent over conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a public event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon.

“Prove Me Wrong” appeared in big letters on the tent over conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a public event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon.

Instead, someone shot him.

Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA, died. He leaves behind a wife and two small children.

Is this what debate has come to in America?

Sadly, it seems it is.

“There is no place in our country for this kind of violence,” President Joe Biden said on social media.

Sadly, though, it seems there is.

Kirk’s killing is an assassination. Though he didn’t hold public office, he was an influential political figure.

Not only was he a prominent and effective national advocate for conservative ideas, he was also an informal adviser to President Donald Trump. In March, he said during a podcast that he talked with Trump once or twice a week – a level of access most members of the Cabinet can’t get near.

Kirk’s killing is the latest in a run of political violence in the United States.
