Salisbury, MD – Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano is proud to announce that the National Park Service, through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), has awarded $1,010,500 in federal funding to support Phase II of the Pirate’s Wharf Park Development Project in Quantico, Maryland. The grant will be administered by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, with Wicomico County as the subrecipient.
The total project cost is estimated at $2,021,000, with federal funds covering half. Work under this phase is scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2028.
“This is an incredible win for Wicomico County,” said County Executive Julie Giordano. “Pirate’s Wharf is the newest cornerstone of our community’s vision for outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, and tourism. With this federal investment, we will be able to expand access, enhance safety, and create new amenities for families, sportsmen, and visitors for generations to come.”
Project Highlights
Phase II of Pirate’s Wharf will include:
Construction of a boat ramp, roadway, and parking lot
A new fishing pier and observation deck
A kayak launch to support water recreation
Shoreline protection and site work to safeguard the area’s natural resources
Development of new trails to improve park connectivity
Executive Giordano also extended her gratitude to Maryland’s federal delegation, Congressman Andy Harris, Senator Chris Van Hollen, and Senator Angela Alsobrooks for their support in securing this critical investment.
“Together, we are building a stronger, healthier, and more connected Wicomico County,” Giordano added.
Who is paying the other half?
Fake Gigi Alert! We’re not fooled 1:05. Why do you keep doing this?
Make sure there is a nice parking lot so the local thugs can park there to smoke their skunk.
these govt grants are just a waste of tax payers hard earned $
Most the parks I see look unkept and trash on the ground. Wicomico needs to concentrate on road repairs and cleaning up existing parks instead of building more parks.
Going to need more “Parks” for when the MD Legislature legalizes homelessness next year!
