White Marlin Open rolling into Ocean City

The 52nd Annual White Marlin Open, dubbed the world’s largest billfishing tournament, returns to Ocean City Aug. 4-8.

Beginning Monday, anglers will head out to the fishing canyons in search of catch that could make them millionaires.

Tournament Director Sasha Motsko said excitement around this year’s tournament is ramping up, as more boats are expected to participate in 2025.

“Last year’s purse was $8.59 million with a $3.7 million dollar pay out for the 1st place white marlin,” she said ahead of next week’s event. “We expect around 400 boats for 2025, which would make for a larger purse than last year. We’ve seen several boats that have pre-registered that have never fished the White Marlin Open before, so that is a good sign.”

Building off the momentum of prior events, Motsko said this year’s tournament will feature added entries, including a new outboard division added entry and an expanded small boat division added entry. The 2025 White Marlin Open will also livestream its award banquet, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9, from 4-6 p.m.

“Now, in addition to watching the weigh-ins through our Marlin Cam on www.whitemarlinopen.com, people can watch the winners receive their big checks and awards live,” Motsko said.
