Somerset County BOE: First Maryland District to Sign Federal Title VI Certification to End Discrimination

The Somerset County Board of Education made history on April 15, 2025 by being the first county in Maryland to sign the Title VI agreement with the U.S. Department of Education, certifying the district’s commitment to eliminate all forms of discrimination in its schools, including preferential Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) policies, practices, curriculum, and educational materials.

  1. Good for them. For all that read this please be aware that “equity” and “equality” are two very different things even if they both ‘sound’ good.
    EQUITY is the administration of hiring or giving special privilege to a person of color just because they are of color.
    EQUALITY is hiring or giving rewards to ANYONE who has earned whatever is on the table. An award, a job, etc.
    I hope Wicomico and Worcester are not far behind.

  3. Somerset County citizens are blessed by the representation of Gordana Schifanelli. Just imagine what MD would have been like if she was our Lt Gov.
