Kiosk it goodbye: OC’s paid parking moves to mobile app

With parking kiosks now removed throughout town, Ocean City officials are reminding residents and visitors of the city’s new meterless system.

During Tuesday’s meeting of the Ocean City Transportation Committee, Parking Manager Jon Anthony reported on the parking department’s efforts to move to a meterless paid parking system.

He noted that kiosks have now been removed from all locations outside the inlet parking lot, and that signs are being created to inform community members of a new mobile payment method through the ParkMobile app.

“The kiosks are gone,” he said. “The next steps are to install the signs themselves and do public outreach”

In December, the City Council voted unanimously to do away with parking kiosks ahead of the summer season, but to gradually phase out the kiosks at the inlet parking lot by 2026. Rather than replace the aging kiosks – which came with a price tag of roughly $1 million – officials opted to move toward a mobile payment system.

“A bulk of our complaints come from the Inlet lot …,” City Manager Terry McGean said at the time. “Maybe we phase it in but leave kiosks at the Inlet lot … That’s our highest turnover.”

  1. What a bunch if morons.
Not everyone has a smart phone.
Not everyone want a frigging app you use once a year.
    Elderly will struggle with this.
No receipt = no proof you paid for your allotted time, meaning big $$ in fines, big big money in fines.
Forced to save personal and financial info to another insecure platform.

This is a clusterf*ck that will ultimately be time consuming and costly to visitors.

    Idiotic

  2. Make Obiden and lady Jill pay it back!!! Why shouldn’t they? I thought slick Willie and Hildabeast were crooked, but sleep Joe and Lady Jill are way more crooked and thieving than the Clintons and that is saying something.

  3. Anything to make the place that much more reprehensible! It just gets worse and more expensive every year. I can find much better places to spend my money. Ocean City is a rip off from the time you get off the bridge til the time you leave, all broke and sunburnt and pissed off.

  4. I’m a local and like to go to Ocean City several times a year for Trashers or visit a couple bars I have friends working at. I don’t want OC parking app on my phone to justify somebody’s new idea to keep their job. Since this new parking direction, I may ride through Ocean City but will not be stopping or spending one cent. I’m sure there are hundreds of people that share my thoughts.

  5. The money grab will force more tourists to go elsewhere!
Every time we turn around – they are making it worse!

  6. I use the park mobile app often as I work in DC. In my opinion, this is just the world we live in. Not that I’m happy about it, but it is what it is. When in OC, I’m usually north of 97th, so the only trick there is getting to the beach early. As for downtown OC, I don’t bother during the season.

One suggestion I’d have would be to be able to verify your home address and let the year round locals park free. We have to put up with a lot from our visitors, and it would sure be nice to see something from slick Ricky and the gang.
