Ouch! Utility bills soar for Delmarva Power customers

Spikes in utility charges have resulted in Delmarva Power promising no late payment fees for as much as two years for January and February bills.

For one Ocean City property owner, the most recent bill increased by 101%, from $485 in the last billing cycle (mid-November to mid-December) to $978 on the current bill (mid-December to mid-January).

A mid-town condominium owner’s 1,200-square-foot, two-bedroom unit spiked 91%, from $140 to $268, despite not being occupied with the thermostat set at 60 degrees.

Additionally, a three-bedroom home in north Ocean City recorded a 187% increase, from $355 to $1,050 in a single-month.

Outside of Ocean City, the pain is also being felt, as a two-bedroom, two-bath home in Whaleyville saw its energy bill double in one month from $400 to $800. Another three-bedroom, two-bath home recorded a 83% jump from $637 to $1,166 from month to month.

Surely, the major cold spell in January featuring two snow falls is largely to blame as usage skyrocketed, but Delmarva Power customers are seeing red over the massive increases, which vary in extremes but generally doubled at minimum.

  1. Ocean Pines on Choptank:

2 teens who change clothes every 20 min., leave everything on no matter what

2 dogs who’s life mission is to drag mud and mayhem onto carpets, towels, etc.

Washing machine / dryer runs at a mi of 3x per day

Dish washer runs at least 1x and at times 2x day

    Heat on 72

Tv and multiple devices run non stop

    Dec bill – $168.07
    Jan bill – $157.56

    Glad I’m not on DP!

  4. What do you expect from MD lawmakers..NO HELP FOR WORKING TAX PAYERS RETIREES..
But sure cover electric bills for illegals, scams, ebt
    I have a solution MOVE!!

  5. electricity is now a luxury. rich people don’t care what the bill is – they don’t even notice. poor people don’t care what the bill is – everything is free anyway. everybody in the middle is screwed and delmarva power and the fine folks in Annapolis could not possibly care less.

    1. Exactly! Those people who don’t pay get their electric paid with our tax dollars, so why does Delmarva Power have a fund to help them?
Are they helping those folks stuck in the middle? No, they are just charging them into poverty. Top it off with a green energy fee WTH!

  6. You’re paying more because illegals and other shitbags are delinquent. It was a bill passed recently yet not reported on. Same reason why home insurance went up…illegals aren’t paying and they’re charging those that do pay more to make up for the losses.

    #redistributionofwealth
    #taxationwithoutrepresentation

    Need DOGE in MD NOW!!!!

    1. Spot on! That is exactly why everything is sky high-criminals and deadbeats thrive at the expense of the responsible citizens who pay for everything. It’s gonna get a lot worse too. My insurance man told me to get get ready for more massive increases. We might all be driving with no insurance soon because nobody can afford it.
