ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WBFF) — Maryland lawmakers are working to protect and expand diversity programs as the state faces a projected $3 billion budget shortfall, even as the Trump administration seeks to dismantle social justice initiatives nationwide.
A joint resolution submitted in both chambers of the Maryland General Assembly aims to designate the state as a safe haven for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles. The proposal describes “attacks” on DEI as “harmful to the bottom line and health” of the state’s economy.
“The American Dream belongs to all of us, not just billionaires and multimillionaires,” the joint resolution reads. “DEI principles and policies promote equal access to opportunities, foster an environment of respect and belonging and ensure that every individual – regardless of background – can fully participate in all aspects of society.”
Del. Ashanti Martinez, D-Prince George’s County, is the lead sponsor of the joint resolution in the House. The freshman lawmaker told Spotlight on Maryland last Wednesday he is prepared to fight the Trump administration’s efforts to eliminate DEI program funding.
These programs are about making sure that we are not lowering the bar but removing barriers,” Del. Martinez said. “I think it is really important that we, here in the Maryland General Assembly, send a very clear message to our residents that we value all people, no matter what.”
So let me get this straight – instead doing what the voters, tax payers want – you are going to do what you want. I see why you were voted in – worthless politicians worried they need this so their voters will keep them in office.

The state is broke, thanks to Tax Moore, yet we can pay 3.3 MILLION for some swamp, mosquito infested property for a “state park”?! In Wetipkin??? The owner of that marsh land sure knew who’s palm to grease for that deal. They better be offering very XLarge cans of DEEP WOODS OFF for anyone brave enough to go there.
