Liz Cheney, Take Note: Republicans Just Formed a New J6 Subcommittee, and There’s an Interesting Twist

Liz Cheney’s pardon from former President Joe Biden might be keeping her warm at night as she wanders the frozen political wasteland of her own making, but she might not want to get too comfortable with her current situation.

On Wednesday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced the formation of a new J6 subcommittee that will be tasked with continuing the investigation into “all events leading up to and after January 6.” This new committee replaces the Committee on House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight, and will once again be chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA). Here’s the interesting twist: it will now fall under the purview of the House Judiciary Committee and its chairman, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).

In announcing the formation of the Select Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, Speaker Johnson said:

“House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is still more work to be done. We are establishing this Select Subcommittee to continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people. The composition and other details regarding the Select Subcommittee will be announced soon.”

RedState’s Bob Hoge reported in December on the findings by Loudermilk and the old committee, noting it had “concluded that A) the events were preventable and B) Cheney may have criminally tampered with a witness during the inquiry.”
