A Viewer Writes: Some Facts & Points to consider bout Question A in Wicomico County, MD this November

Here are some facts for the debate about Question A in Wicomico County, MD.

The Top 10 Largest Counties in the United States, not one of them has an elected County Executive. The largest County in the Country is San Bernardino, CA a County with a population of over 2 Million people, and they have a 5 member board of supervisors, with a Chairman that is essentially the equivalent of a County Council President.

In the Delmarva region from Sussex County Delaware, to Talbot County, Maryland  the only county that has an elected Executive is Wicomico. It’s also the only County this year where the elected Executive tried to give a police encrypted radio to a biased internet blogger, without consulting the County’s elected Sheriff before doing it, The Commissioners /  Council Members would have had to have voted in a public hearing before doing that, in these neighboring Counties with their form of Government.

The Top 3 Elected officials that represent Wicomico County, MD its United States Congressman & 2 State Senators, all 3 of them live in neighboring counties that do not have an elected Executive.

Congressman Andy Harris lives in Dorchester County, which does not have an elected Executive.

State Senator Mary Beth Carozza lives in Worcester County, which does not have an elected Executive & State Senator Johnny Mautz lives in Talbot County, which does not have an elected Executive.

If it’s good enough for the Counties the Congressman & the State Senators live in to not have an elected Executive, then WIcomico should be just fine should it no longer have an elected Executive. Also there seems to be no calls by citizens in those neighboring counties to create an elected Executive position.

  1. Some form of checks and balance is required.

I will accept getting rid of the Executive position after they enact term limits for the Council and executive. The group we have now has been here too long and have too much vested power!

  2. I’m quite elderly and have lived here all my life and I know things were more orderly in the county BEFORE we had an executive!
