Ocean City officials continue investigating Boardwalk tram fatality involving toddler

Tram service ceased indefinitely following incident

Few details have been publicly shared as members of the Ocean City Police Department continue investigating a toddler’s death after a collision with an Ocean City Boardwalk tram around 8:15 p.m., Tuesday, near Dorchester Street.

The incident marks the first fatality involving a Boardwalk tram since 1993 when a female adult died in a collision. Tuesday’s collision occurred on the concrete tram lane on the east side of the Boardwalk with preliminary reports stating a 2-year-old boy was struck by a tram driving south while running from the beach east toward the wooden part of the Boardwalk.

According to a news release from the department Tuesday night, Ocean City EMS staff pronounced the child, who has not been identified, deceased at the scene. Both tram conductors remained on scene after the incident.

Funny, this doesn’t make sense anymore after a week.
