Only 36 percent of Americans are confident about the value of a college education, a confidence level that has declined from 57 percent in 2015. Most Americans, meanwhile, say they believe higher education in the U.S. is headed in the “wrong direction.”
A mere 36 percent of adults say they have a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in higher education, the results of a recent poll conducted by Gallup and the Lumina Foundation found, according to a report by Associated Press.
“What’s shocking to me is that the people who have low or no confidence is actually increasing,” Courtney Brown, vice president of the education nonprofit Lumina, said.
Notably, confidence in the U.S. higher education system is even slipping among those who answered that they felt good about it, as fewer Americans said they have “some” confidence, with more answering “very little” and “none” than the previous year.
If you are getting a degree in underwater basket weaving or gender studies – they are worthless.
The Health-Care and STEM degrees will still get you started on a good pathway – as long as they are not from DEI-level schools!
How about liberal arts, is that a degree that will me a good paying job?
I make and have made more than those with a degree in the same profession.
Greedy employers demanding a 2 or 4 year degree only paying min wage.
What a frigging joke.
Depends on what your degree is in.
Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, BS in Nursing. After a few years in these professions, you can write your own ticket.
Degrees in Art, History, Liberal Arts, you are doomed !!
7:51 – I completely agree but want to add one more – education. Someone decides to be a teacher. They go get a 4 year degree that costs 60-80 grand, enter the workforce and make 50k and complain they are underpaid. Didn’t they know the salary BEFORE they went to college?
I have a relative who is a teacher here in Wicomico county, with a Masters also. Has been for almost 20 years. Benefits are great, health, retirement, etc. Salary sucks, no backing from the board, putting up with unruly kids and parents who think he is the problem, not their little Johnny. Its got to the point where he is just “putting in time now”.
