Congressman Harris represents District 1 of Maryland which encompasses the entire Eastern Shore.
The 12 lawmakers who represent the Eastern Shore in Annapolis did not sign the letter urging the congressman to resign. Democratic state delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes, who is Speaker Pro Tempore of the House of Delegates, says Harris should be the one to decide whether to resign.
When asked at a press conference on Tuesday, whether Harris should resign, Governor Larry Hogan said, “It’s not up to me to tell Andy Harris what he should do,” Governor Hogan responded. The governor says he does not agree with the congressman’s remarks, “I don’t know what prompted him to do and say the things he did, but it’s not up to me to decide what he does with his political future.”
