The Chesapeake Oyster Alliance (COA) celebrates adding six billion oysters to the bay since 2017. The amount, which was a culmination of federal, state and local efforts, is more than halfway toward their 10 billion oysters by 2025 goal.
The COA’s count includes all oysters directly added to the bay and its tributaries through restoration and aquaculture (also known as aquafarming). The majority of efforts come from programs in Virginia and Maryland which target 11 Chesapeake Bay tributaries.
