SALISBURY, Md. – Pirate’s Wharf Park will open to the public on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m.
The park is located in Quantico, just outside of west Salisbury. Visitors are invited to explore the playground, pavilion and a portion of the trails.
“We pushed for a soft opening this fall to give people the opportunity to use the park while it’s still nice outside,” said Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism Director Steve Miller. “We’re proud of this park and we’re eager for the public to experience what we’ve been working towards.”
As the property is still under development, portions of the park remain closed for construction. Visitors should avoid construction areas by following directions on posted signs throughout the park.
“We have been waiting for this for years and we are hopeful that County citizens will take advantage of this lovely area on the Wicomico River for many years to come,” said Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano. “This is only the first stage of development and we will continue to provide improvements over the next couple of years.”
Planned improvements include construction of remaining trails and installation of interpretive exhibits throughout the park. These are anticipated to be complete in early 2024.
A boat ramp, soft launch, fishing pier and several viewing areas are also in the plans. County officials hope to see those take shape in 2025.
Pirate’s Wharf Park is located 4701 Whitehaven Rd., Quantico, MD 21856. Park hours are daily, sunrise to sunset.
Thank you to Mr. Psota for making this park a reality and to Julie for hogging the credit….
