September 19, celebrated National Voter Registration Day, took an exciting twist in Maryland, where advocates argue for a lower voting age in local elections. While off-year elections typically draw less attention, the focus is on allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to vote, a practice already permitted in some Maryland cities.
In November, Rockville will feature a nonbinding referendum allowing voters to express their opinions on lowering the voting age to 16. This comes as Alyssa Canty, director of youth programs for Common Cause, says younger citizens are beginning to see the impact of civic policies on their lives.
In Maryland, state laws allow 16-year-olds to register to vote, although they can’t participate in state or federal elections until 18. However, Maryland law gives the green light for city councils to lower the voting age for local elections. Takoma Park, Greenbelt, Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, and Mount Rainier have taken this step to date. Somerset will allow 16-year-olds to vote in local elections starting next May.
Canty believes late high school is a prime time to involve youngsters in voting. “Usually around 16, 17 years old, that junior, senior year of high school, that’s also when you take your in-depth civics class, and you learn how the government works,” she explained. “It’s almost like experimental learning where you get to go and cast a ballot.”

Again, for the thousandth time- this is nothing more than a Maoist type cultural revolution. Mao taught the youth of China to memorize his Little Red Book, to hate the Four Olds (old ideas, old customs, old culture, or way of thinking) and to disrespect adults. They want to give kids the right to vote because they feel they have indoctrinated enough of them and NOW want them to carry out their Maoist plan.
You children have been taught to hate families (your sons just want porn and your daughters think having babies is gross). They have been taught to hate religion (“I’m not religious, I’m spiritual”). They have been taught to hate Western culture ( they do not or cannot read the old book, listen to any music or know any are or history from before when they were born.) And know they are being taught that reason and logic (and merit) are just ‘tools of white male oppression”.
And now they will vote- against your ideals and values and FOR the values that YOU let society and the public school system teach them.
I’m a Democrat so stop blaming Democrats for this nonsense. Voting at 16 is ridiculous. Honestly, even 18 and 21 are – nowadays – too young. For some reason, our kids have gotten less and mature and it’s not until a lot later that I would trust them with voting. Don’t make this about democrat vs. republican. But don’t give children the ability to vote and have their votes counted. I know it’s unfashionable, but I actually think voting rights should be based upon land ownership or ownership of other valuable assets, even liquid assets like stocks/bonds or savings account balances. In my opinion those things are like “skin in the game” and so that’s what you should have to have before your votes should be counted.
Not all democrats are as stupid as these ones that want to let children vote…nobody is pointing a finger at you.
