A state-level investigation into grade changing in Baltimore City Public Schools is moving forward.
The investigation is ongoing. No one involved will discuss it on camera. But after fighting Fox45 News, for years, over the release of information concerning grade changing, North Avenue now says it’s cooperating. In a statement from City Schools, the district writes it is turning over documents “in a spirit of transparency.”
The statement comes after Maryland’s Inspector General for Education requested information concerning City Schools’ grading system. Project Baltimore spoke with IG Rick Henry in June, soon after he assumed the role.
“I think there’ll be plenty of work for us,” said Henry. “I want to be available to you and my office wants to be available to you, if you see any type of fraud or mismanagement.”
Henry’s office first hinted it was looking into allegations of grade changing inside City Schools in September, after public calls for an investigation began to grow. Project Baltimore had interviewed teachers and spoke to parents, who said students were being pushed through the system and not getting the education they need.
