Whitlock: Rooting against Megan Rapinoe and the USWNT is reparations for men

I don’t feel bad rooting against the U.S. women’s national soccer team in the World Cup.

I’m not going to feign indifference. I want them to lose. I’m angry that Portugal’s best chance in extra time early Tuesday morning banged off the post, allowing the USWNT to advance to the knockout round via a 0-0 tie.

Portugal almost ended the American Nightmare, the band of Megan Rapinoe-led entitled women who struggle to respect our national anthem and lie about pay “inequality.”

Rooting against the American Nightmare is not unpatriotic. Rooting for them is. In the history of sports, no sports team or individual has needed a comeuppance more than our women’s soccer team.

  1. Rapinoe just wants to be a man without giving up all of the woman stuff, except for wanting a man, that is.

  2. She has been a divisive element for sure.

More to the point, female soccer is just inferior to male version in every way, and I’m no soccer expert. Same for female B-ball and tennis to cite two easy examples. Level of play just doesn’t match up and if there were not separate male and female versions very, very few women could make an all-comers squad in their sport.

USWNT acted out couple years back, including their disgusting lack of respect for our flag and anthem, to get payroll parity with the men’s squad despite generating much smaller crowds and way less revenue. The upper management folded to most of their demands. Now they have a squad with a lot of new faces since most of the vets who got them past wins have retired, and all they managed so far was 2 draws and a win over tiny nation, and didn’t look good in either draw. Excellent chance they’re headed home after playing Sweden.

Back to the pay issue. One of the reasons for the earlier disparity was men had opted for a deal that paid more if they won more; kinda base & commission. Gals had opted for a fixed rate win, lose or draw deal. No comment required.
