Stefanik says government illegally censored Hunter Biden laptop story to protect Joe Biden

Three witnesses agreed with Stefanik that the government censorship constitutes election interference.

Rep. Elise Stefanik on Thursday said that the government’s efforts to coerce social media companies into censoring the story about Hunter Biden’s laptop of corruption before the 2020 election constituted a form of “illegal government censorship to protect and prop up Joe Biden on the eve of the 2020 election.”

Speaking about the stifling of the New York Post’s story about the laptop during a hearing for the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, Stefanik said: “This was illegal government censorship to protect and prop up Joe Biden on the eve of the 2020 election, and according to polling, of people who are now made aware of the Hunter Biden laptop story, 53 percent would have changed their vote, including 61 percent of Democrats.”

Three hearing witnesses – Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, reporter Emma-Jo Morris who broke the Post’s original story and Louisiana Assistant Attorney General D. John Sauer – agreed with Stefanik that the government censorship constitutes election interference.

Stefanik’s comments are supported by a 2022 Technometrica Institute of Policy and Politics poll, which found that 47% of voters said it is at least somewhat likely that they would have changed their votes if they knew the contents of the laptop were real.
