Maryland legalization is going to vastly outperform New York’s anemic launch. (Leafly)

It ain’t just the summertime humidity: the air in Maryland is about to get extra sticky.

Starting July 1, adults can start buying legal cannabis in the Old Line State. Nearly one hundred existing medical marijuana providers across Maryland may offer flower, edibles, vapes and more to anyone over the age of 21.

While Maryland officials have put in the work to ensure that the shift to recreational cannabis goes as smoothly as possible, residents and visitors alike have plenty of questions.

Rest assured, Leafly’s got what you need. Read on to learn more about possession limits in Maryland, the word on hot stores, what’s for sale and much more.

Currently operating medical dispensaries will begin selling to adult customers on July 1. Opening hours will vary.

Maryland will additionally begin to approve new licenses starting this summer. The state will reserve the first round of licenses for social equity applicants. Look out for new stores and brands coming soon!

How much weed is legal in Maryland?

Consumers can rejoice in knowing that Maryland law offers very reasonable limits on possession.

Got up to 1.5 ounces? You’re fully in the clear. If you’re stopped by law enforcement with 1.5 to 2.5 ounces, the state will subject you solely to a $100 fine. Possession of more than 2.5 ounces may result in arrest.

  1. I support legalization for private use in private homes, but too many people are either misunderstanding or just being stupid:

    1. I was at the city park and someone was firing up a joint by the river in public, which is not legal, and creates an offensive smell for those who don’t want it and don’t want to breathe it in;

    2. I was in a parking lot at a retail store and someone was smoking cannabis, which is not legal, and smells bad to people who don’t want to smell it or breathe it in;

    3. I was in my driveway and someone drove by smoking weed, which is not legal, and smells like an unwanted skunk and most importantly means that they are impaired (DUI) while driving.

    Why can’t you avail yourself of a new freedom without messing things up? You can’t smoke in public, and you certainly can’t (and should not) smoke while driving.

  2. Since we got this new Governor he is letting everything that was a crime be ok now. This is stupid on so many aspects and fringes on the rights of those that don’t use. If you are traveling in heavy traffic for any amount of time you will observe someone using so much of it this. It is coming out of their vehicle windows in a big cloud and we know that it is is severly hampering their driving they weave all over the lanes and look like they have no control at all when you see them. How many are going to kill themselves and others on the roads I hope they start keeping a count of how many are killed on the roads.

  3. Will Only get people in More Trouble !!! Laws / Rules Not clear & conflict with Federal Law / amounts
    allowed are too small > so WHY BOTHER ??? Police don’t even know what to do / WHY allow something
    you know Harms one’s HEALTH ?? Just as Bad as cigarettes & Worse !!!! ALL in the name of TAXES !!!!

  4. Damn Karen’s calm down. It just started. You think it’s making a ton of new smokers? No. Most already smoked. Why don’t you get your little phones out and go record the lines at the dispenserys. And yell,” Get off my lawn” !
