Baltimore County To Cap Delivery Service App Fees At 15% To Help Restaurants Struggling During COVID-19 Pandemic

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski announced a new executive order Tuesday that will cap the fees delivery service apps can charge restaurants already struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The order will affect third-party delivery services like DoorDash and GrubHub who normally charge restaurants 30% or more from every order amount.

“Delivery service has been a critical component in helping our restaurant survive this year,” Olszewski said. “But often, when you order from a local restaurant through a third-party delivery app, the restaurant can be charged as much as 30% or more from every order. That’s 30% lost to our local businesses from every purchase.”

  1. For every rule a politician makes there are 10,000 regular citizens looking for a way around it. GrubHub and DoorDash will task there attorneys with finding a way around this and they will. And you can be sure it will result in higher prices for average citizens.

  2. Exceeds his powers. Not here to defend delivery services but it’s a free market. Restaurants can choose not to use them. My guess is that it’s cheaper and less bother than hiring their own drivers, plus eliminating the liability from accidents. Delivery service lawyers will eat his lunch (pun intended).

He’d have just about as much chance of dictating what the fees the girls on The Block could charge, or the per cent their pimps could gather.

    Baltimorons!
