A Comment Worthy Of A Post: Salisbury Maryland Fire Department Fee/Tax

Bend over peeps
“Its a fee, not a tax”
And rumor has it the county is entertaining the same.
One wonders, were funds diverted from public safety and budged to festivals, roundabouts, bike lanes, walking trails, a cement pad for food trucks, and other fluffy nonsense?
Is the public at fault for calling an ambulance when they stub their toe or get a splinter in their pinky?
Is this just another symptom of the city’s increasing poverty rate (now at 32%) and boom of section 8 housing?
A third of the city’s population is in poverty. Let that sink in.

  1. Disgusting! It’s so easy being a liberal democrat and just spend, spend, and spend. It’s difficult to be a conservative republican and actually solve problems without throwing money at them. We are living in sad times and the future doesn’t look very bright. Wake up people and throw the bums out.

  2. Highway robbery. A bunch of fools that are sinking the municipalities into a hole, and we have to bail them out when we already provide them an allowance through taxes. Yet, they still want to remain at the helm. It’s time to take the credit card away from the bastard children and ground them.

  3. And add this $300 p/y fee on top of Biden’s $40 p/m mortgage tax. That’s $780 a year in new taxes. That’s exactly how federal and local governments get away with fees/taxes like these. They nickel and dime their population to death with a bunch of little taxes.

  4. In addition to our homegrown poverty victims (willing and not), more arrive daily from disaster-zone big cities and, increasingly, their decaying suburbs.

  5. Why should big business pay the same as a household. Why should retired or disabled pay the same rate. Where is the money going in Wicomico county? Always “follow the money”.

    1. Don’t leave out Jack Heath, Manure Bota, Michele Gregory, Angela Blake and April Jackson. Now new comer Megan Outten. These Libtards need to be ousted.

  6. If you build section 8 housing thry will come from everywhere and fill it. If you don’t build it they will go elsewhere. Who is getting rich on all this building??

    1. I think its a bit more complicated than that.

Its the failure of your “business organizations” , like the chamber of commerce, economic development, and your local government to address the lack of jobs and more specifically , good paying jobs in your community.

How many royal farms does one community need?

Being in poverty means lack of funds, lack of options, lack of resources. Less money to spend in the community.

This isn’t “you’re poor you’re the problem” issue, this is a failure on your governments part to promote the community and bring in better business opportunities.

I would love to see some data on the “wind turbine school” and how that was to be bringing in MILLIONS of economic dollars to the community. Has it? Does it even still exist? How many people does it employ?

The data is clear. More poverty, and more rentals – isn’t the direction your community should be going in.

  7. I don’t know how it works, but aren’t section 8 prices and fee structures set by the government?
Can they even charge a section 8 tenant this fee?
Is that why this “fee” is such a ridiculous amount because they can’t?

Not only has the poverty rate risen, the % of rentals vs ownership has risen to 75% rentals and 25% owners in the city.

Your government has allowed the community to be saturated with rentals, despite their rhetoric of the importance of home ownership.

  8. jake gay has destroyed the city. fortunately his wife got a lot of drugs off of salisbury streets by ingesting them herself

  9. Word to the wise on County Council and to the new County Executive.

Don’t get sucked in. Don’t enable this by permitting City of Salisbury to tax county properties outside the city limits. City of Salisbury has chosen where and how to spend its money. County residents have no say and no vote in how it squanders and fritters city tax dollars. and grants.

If the current high rise construction in downtown exceeds the capability of current fire equipment to reach upper floors of new construction projects there is a simple, cheap and effective solution: Do not permit occupancy of floors above the reach of current equipment until the developers buy equipment that satisfies code and provides it to the city for free.

If I’m reading between the lines correctly, the additions to the current building were approved knowing there would be a claimed need for more new, ultra expensive equipment that would require more staffing and garage space. All to feather the nest of developers. Any claimed revenue from taxes on the addition will take forever and a day to offset the cost of the new equipment, maintenance, fuel, staffing and garage space.

In Jake&JackBury John Q Public will take it in the shorts again.

County elected leaders, show some backbone! Serve the public!

    1. Yeah, but Julie and Cannon plan on allowing the city to annex in the county to satisfy the new water and sewer plan and those of you that live outside the city lines you need to plan on being annexed, paying county and city taxes, paying city water and sewer, and paying this additional $300 tax. That’s right, and the annexation is going to continue until they swallow up Parsonsburg, Powellville, Mardela, Allen, Whitehaven and all areas in the county.

  10. Govt gets too much of OUR money now !!!! Leaving us Nothing to live on !!!! STOP IT NOW !!!!

If we had printing presses WHY would we need anyone else’s MONEY ????? NOT

  11. New fire equipment should not be needed by the city fire companies to service the Ross building in case of a fire. Construction codes require fire stand pipe outlets with attached hoses on every floor of that building near the stairwells. The brave fire fighters can go to any floor of choice via the stairwell, grab a hose and begin spraying the fire with pressurized water provided by the required fire pumps on the ground floor. If I’m not mistaken, ladder trucks can on reach 6 or 8 floors. No need to spend money on new trucks. Think about the real highrise building in cities such as Baltimore or New York. Ladder trucks can’t even come close to reaching the high floors of those buildings. No new trucks or garages needed.

    1. They just bought new ladder trucks and the old ones were only 10 years old. These fire trucks should last 30 plus years easily because the trade ins are sold to other fire companies to use. These paid firemen are nothing but a bunch of spoiled brats. Shame on them.

  12. Heard that the ROSS building received free water and sewer hookup by the city in addition to their tax abatement. Now, they need a ladder truck that will reach to the top of their high-rise. We are not financing your governmental failures and promises to accommodate the pockets of swampy investors. Everyone that sits on the city council, including “Biden-coherent” Mayor Jack Heath are all done with their last term. Word of advice: Save your time and money. There’s no need to campaign and run again because you won’t win. The people have had it with communists running the city!

  13. This should be a county issue. Council do your job in the counties interest and block this. My fire insurance is higher anyway because I live out so far. My house would probably burn to the ground before they got out here anyway. This doesn’t benefit me at all. Highway robbery.

  14. Just another scam by the SFD. How are these FIRE FIGHTERS get to these higher floor ? What I see of these FIRE FIGHTERS they won’t be able to get passed the 2nd floor in their psychical condition. This is just another SCAM just like the FIRE BOAT that kept sinking in the marina or the new one they had to purchase and the last I heard it was still in dry dock in CRISFIELD by the COAST GUARD DOCKS.. Why is there a FIRE TRUCK sent to all accidents whether there is any type of spillage or nor not Why did the full time FIRE FIGHTERs get rid of the FIRE POLICE which handled traffic control. They cost less money than the Fire Fighters out there controlling traffic.. Why do they not use the CHIEFS vehicle to run errands and get groceries instead of a 100,000 lb truck and 4 people? I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A COMPLTETE INDEPENDENT FORENSIC AUDIT before any VOTE IS TAKEN ON THIS SUBJECT.

  15. Salisbury got grants to hire new staff, those grants have run out and they can’t afford it now. They run an engine with nearly every ambulance call to pad the numbers. Meanwhile they want money from the county for when they go into county territory to assist. How about all the times county volunteers go into the city?

  16. Public outrage is needed to stop this insane tax hike. If elected folks think the majority of the voters are against something they will invariably change their minds quickly. The most important thing to them is to get reelected.

  17. well now aint salisbury special! these comments are spot on, time for a forensic audit by outside firms for all city county boe departments! should be a real eye opener! never happen!

  18. Just look at the City’s Facebook page and read all the comments. The majority of them are paid firemen in favor of this $300 tax. Why? Because 1) The paid fireman will get a significant pay raise. 2) The majority of the paid fireman don’t live in the City of Salisbury and they won’t have to pay this outrageous tax. Not only that, the paid fireman don’t have to pay for an ambulance bill, either.

Go to the FB page and read all the nasty comments by the paid firemen.
