NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY IS APRIL 22, 2023

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses crucial public safety and public health issues of drug disposal. According to the 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, among people aged 12 or older, 8.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers.

Take Back Day events across the country provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.  Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands which is dangerous and often tragic.  Take Back Day provides the opportunity to dispose of unused/expired prescription medications in a safe manner. This past October, 4,340 law enforcement agencies across the country participated in a Take Back Day with 4,902 collection sites, and 324 tons of unused prescription drugs were collected.

Wicomico County residents are encouraged to participate in National Take Back Day, on April 22nd by taking any unused prescription drugs to one of the county-wide prescription drug drop off sites.  Residents are also encouraged to visit the sites anytime throughout the year.
